Answer it.

“Answer it! Answer it!” says Vireen, almost a little too enthusiastically.

“‘She’ didn’t say which one?” Lydia asks, chin lowered and eyebrows raised, almost as if she’s looking at you over imaginary glasses.

“Uh, no, she didn’t say which one. Are you sure there’s not something like that here?” You realize you should probably deal with the phone. “Hang on.”

“What are you doing?” Lydia asks sharply. For a moment you think she’s talking to you, then Doctor Rovvak’s snout bumps into your arm as Rovvak cranes her head to — you’re suddenly not sure if she’s trying to sniff the phone thing, or eat it.

“Hang ON,” you say, pushing her out of the way. You flip the phone open and put it to your ear to answer it. Maybe the Operator realized she forgot to specify? “Hello? You didn’t—”

YOU!” growls the voice at the other end. It’s Agent Rass. You suddenly wish you’d checked to see who was calling before answering. “WHY DO YOU HAVE LYDIA’S DEVICE?”
